I read your magazine in which you support local businesses. I would
like to share with you an experience I had on Tuesday with a pub in
Olney. I went with a friend we go there occasionally the decor is a
bit tired and the furnishings have seen better days there are wires
over the carpets which are also a little old. However, the beer is
cheap.

My friend, though, is recovering from a serious illness and felt the
need to have a soft drink. He asked the server if they had Ginger
Beer and was pleased when the answer was in the affirmative. The
bottles were a little small (200 ml) and so I suggested he should have
a couple of them in a glass.

When I received my change, I thought that the price seemed a little
expensive and asked what I had been charged for the Ginger Beer.
£2.20 per bottle was the unashamed response. YES £2.20 FOR 200
ML. £4.40 for 400ml. This equates to somewhat more than £6.10 per
pint!!!

We are heading for a recession. Businesses such as that pub need
all of the goodwill they can muster, and yet, they are happy to rip off
unsuspecting customers. I would like to report that the server dealt
with the situation with charm and dignity alas that was not the
case. Will we all be sad if that business goes to the wall?
