A
fter returning from a trip to Africa Brian,
of bigfunwithbrian.com, thought it was
time to bring a bit of the African community
spirit and sense of fun he had experienced to
Newport Pagnell.
So he gathered together a bunch of music
and art-loving friends and they started their
quest to bring us fun.
The first night of Brian-style fun was held at
the Plough on Newport Pagnell's High Street.
Using just small bedroom speakers and a
few DJ's to play that evening, their quest got
off to a good start. Playing that night was
Joe . . . who was to meet his girlfriend!
Anyway, guess what, their `big fun twins'
celebrated their first birthday this year!
Congrats!
From those humble beginnings their nights
have continued to grow and diversify, often
joining forces with other music promoters
like Nice Time Reggae, Snoosh, Rusty and
Beatcheck. They now hold nights every
month or so with a blend of musical styles:
everything from bands, DJ's, acoustic acts,
`African' style drummers, graffiti artists and
fire shows.
Some of this years highlights have included
an outdoor charity gig at Castlemead
Court care home, their own float in the
Newport Carnival, a fire show at
Campbell Park as part of `The Big
Draw' in conjunction with the MK
Gallery and Parks Trust and `The Legion
of Rhythm' - a twelve hour, two stage
gig at The British Legion. Not forgetting
`Big Knobs and Broomsticks' - their
annual Halloween gig. Brian comments
"it has not yet happened as we speak,
but I'm sure it will be a blast again." All
profits from this gig will be donated to
the charity `mind' after the loss of their
good friend Simon Palmer, who
thought up the name, and the names
of many other nights as well as
thinking up the `Big fun with Brian'
name.
Other up and coming nights include `Chris
Mass' their Christmas party, with a line up
composed entirely of people called `Chris'
(hence the name), and `Go Hawaiian with
Brian' (details to be confirmed soon).
You can check out
www.bigfunwithbrian.com for the latest
news. They are also available for private hire
if you are planning a birthday, wedding or
other such knees up!
Nice talking to you Brian. Mark
