Dear Editor
What a pity P M Clarke (December issue) felt they had to complain to the council about some
of the shop fronts in Olney High Street. Sure, the One-Stop Shop is not the most beautiful to
behold, but I've seen worse.
However, moaning about `violent purple' and `garish blue' (both descriptions rather
exaggerated) has now caused a big problem for the owners of the former with MK Council now
involved, totally unnecessarily. `Violent purple' is in fact a gentle lavender. Had it been bright
orange or acid yellow, there might have been a case to answer, but it is rather subjective. For
heaven's sake does P M Clarke have nothing more serious to worry about!
Surely the local council and that in MK should have more pressing matters to deal with. Please
leave the lavender shop front alone there are many of us out here who really like it. It has
been very tastefully done and enhances the High Street.

Dear Editor
Congratulations on your first-class magazine, a credit to you in terms of content, layout and
stimulus, with a noticeable lack of `typos'. As a newcomer, I'm finding it invaluable.
Purple is obviously `flavour' of the month in the December issue, starting with the striking cover!
Then we have `le petit bijou', which I urge everyone to visit. It is a delightful shop stylishly laid out
with the prettiest jewellery you could wish for, against a back-drop of decorative prints and
mirrors. It has the merit of being deliciously different French, of course and as the French say,
"Les gouts et les couleurs ne se discutent pas" (there's no accounting for tastes and colours).
And then on to the purple prose of one G Bacchus. I was tempted to lash out at his diatribe, but
then I decided that was what he was angling for, so the best treatment was to maintain a
discreet silence.
So, what will be flavour of the month in January, Mr Editor? I'm looking forward to it...
Margaret Mills, Olney
Dear Editor
I have just read the letter from someone
who, like me, is concerned about the state
of One Stop's hideous shop front. Is it
possible for the council to have any
control of the appearance and the poor
upkeep of its frontage? I often pick up
litter at the entrance, (but never go in) and
dread the new Tesco on the Market Place
becoming equally as shabby. The cheap
colour of red which Tesco use will not
enhance Olney either.
If only it had been a Waitrose!

Dear Editor
I really don't understand why you send the
`Phonebox' to Newport Pagnell. All I ever
read about in the letters page is Olney
townsfolk bleating on about this or that.
They really should get out more.
