I wish to add to the plaudits you are receiving lately on the quality of
your Phonebox publication which is always a good read. On reading
the last edition (January), it struck me that there appears to be so
much common sense and observations written by members of the
public, but only because of the complete lack of common sense
employed by planners and at times councillors whose job appears to
be to implement only the solution which will annoy the general public
the most ! What do they actually ever achieve that is tangibly
beneficial? Crime is up massively, air quality is rubbish, lorries are
thundering through the town every 14 seconds and on it goes with no
real prospect of action but as long as we are kept informed on the
local scout group thats ok!!
From the ludicrous completely over the top no overtaking lines all the
way from Olney to Milton Keynes (always handy to be stuck behind a
tractor on the way to work now) to the local issues which seem to
bypass the thought process on a frequent basis.
Take the Aspreys roundabouts mentioned in your Mercury Report
(always a great read in itself), the two miniscule roundabouts have
attracted ridicule from day 1 they are utterly pointless annoyances
which serve no purpose at all. They do not act as speed deterents
whatsoever whilst no doubt soaking up an unfathomable portion of
taxes. How do these ideas get out of the asylum in the first place?
Most cars will go round them the WRONG way in order to continue
on a flat road whilst the others will simply slow down enough in order
to go straight over them without doing too much damage to their
undersides. Right of Way confusion is a result of their size. Indeed if
you did correctly negotiate them as the Highway Code requires you
