Dear Editor
Can I congratulate Eliot Mansfield from Newport Pagnell referring to Olney people bleating on about
such trivial matters, like the hideous shop fronts or the dreaded Tesco coming to town. Mind you we
could have just left the old Turners shop collecting more cobwebs and that would have kept the
whining, I've got nothing else to do but complain because I've lived in Olney all my life brigade
happy. As Eliot put so well, they really should get out more, and can I add, get a life.
Pat Wolstencroft, Olney
Dear Editor
I wish to reply to the recent letters in the
Phonebox concerning the Onestop shop and
new Tesco. It may have escaped one
reader's notice that it is not the shop that
drops litter, but the residents of Olney who
can't manage to put their rubbish in the two
bins provided outside. In regards to the other
letter wishing for a Waitrose: It's still a shop.
It would still have the same opening hours,
the same litter dropped by the same
customers, the same problems caused by
lorries making deliveries, probably the same
staff. I suppose the one consolation would
be that those lorries and the poor staff that
you feel you must be rude to, would be
wearing a Waitrose logo so that makes it all
ok. It's this snobbery that really brings the
town down not a local shop.

Dear Editor
I just don't understand why the
people of Olney rant on and on
about Tesco coming; people
moaning about the colour frontage
of the Bijou shop; moaning about
litter outside the Onestop shop and
worried that Tesco will make the
same mess. They forgot to mention
the litter from the fish and chip
shops and all the beer cans that
get left everywhere by drinkers.
Oh and not to forget the person
who wished we were going to have
a Waitrose instead of Tesco.
What a bunch of snobs the people
of Olney are.
It will be good for the Co-op to
have some healthy competition for
once. Why should we have to pay
high prices for our groceries.

Dear Editor
In reply to Eliot Mansfield (January issue). Well said
and I agree entirely that there is not enough
relating to Newport Pagnell. This may be that
Newport Pagnell folks don't contribute enough and
maybe we should if that is the case. In reply to
Patricia Dunn. With all the problems that are in the
world today such as starvation, wars and poverty,
rather than bleating: "Why it couldn't be Waitrose?"
You may want to count your blessings and be
grateful that you are in a position to have money to
spend in whatever shop that you are privileged to
have. There are many who don't have this luxury.
And I suppose you assume the litter you kindly
pick up is left there by outsiders or is the fault of
the storekeeper. Thankfully I know that not all
Olney residents have your self-centred arrogant
views.
