M
alfulah is a TICA registered small,
hobby breeders of Bengal cats in
Cogenhoe, Northampton.
Their aim is to breed happy, healthy, well
socialised Bengals that are as close in
appearance to their ancestors - the Wild
Asian Leopard Cat (Prionailurus
bengalensis) as possible.
"Bengals are truly amazing animals; they
love to play in or with water, they climb and
jump from extreme heights, they talk to you
and they rule your life!" Jean Mill created the
bengal in the 1970s. "I deliberately crossed
leopard cats with domestic cats for several
important reasons. At that time, wild cats
were being exploited for the fur market.
Nursing female leopard cats defending
their nests were shot for their pelts, and
the cubs were shipped off to pet stores
worldwide. Unsuspecting cat lovers
bought them, unaware of the danger,
their unpleasant elimination habits and
the unsuitability of keeping wild cats as
pets. Most of the wild kittens from this
era ended up in zoos or escaped onto
city streets. I hoped that by putting a
leopard coat on a domestic cat, the pet
trade could be safely satisfied. If
fashionable women could be dissuaded
from wearing furs that look like friends'
pets, the diminished demand would
result in less poaching of wild species."
There are many different colours and
patterns that Bengals may have. There
are marbled and spotted. Of the spotted,
some will have rosettes - and these can be
doughnuts, arrowheads, horse shoe shaped.
Colourwise there are brown, silver, blue eyed
snow (also known as seal lynx point snows)
and AOC (any other eye colour snow)
otherwise known as seal mink, even blue
bengals and melanistic (black).
Bengals are also known to sometimes have
glittered coats. This is when the hair tip is
hollow causing it to reflect light, making the
cat appear dusted with speckles of
gold. Some people refer to their coats as
pelts, their fur is very different to other
breeds of cats, and as such, there is a
hideous market out there for their coats and
people sometimes buy them purely for their
pelts to be sold abroad. So, we will always
be asking questions about the home in
which they are going to! And would always
welcome progress reports or photos!
All our cats and their kittens live in the family
home, apart from Muffin who has his
luxurious love shack at the bottom of the
garden!! Our cats are all indoor cats but they
have their own
run for fresh air,
exercise, sun
bathing and
general
hooliganism!!
They are first
and foremost
loved as pets,
the breeding is
and always will
be a secondary
interest!
Bengals are
extremely
curious and
playful by
nature. They
climb and knock
things over, they
chew plants (please think about poisonous
ones!) and they move important objects like
keys and hide them in unthinkable places -
like water bowls! Bengals are known to get
"The Zooms!!" where they literally fly about
all over the place to burn off that excessive
energy, especially as kittens. Following which
they will flump and seek cuddles and a
comfy lap. They can be trained to play with
the "right" toys cat trees can be
inexpensive and
are a very good
idea for saving
furniture -
particularly for
indoor cats - who
do need to sharpen
their claws!! Toys can be
made though sisal rope is inexpensive to
buy and toys are only limited to the
imagination! Toys are invaluable in the
bonding process to new owners lots of
chase games, increasing contact then
cuddly, rumbly sleeps! If the kitten is to be
left on its own all day whilst its owner is at
work, then it is advisable to have two kittens,
to keep each other company and
entertained. Discount may be given for
multiple cat purchases.
We presently have a stunning litter of seven
beauties available some suitable for show
and breeding to approved homes, or as very
special pets. Kittens will not be sold until 13
weeks old, having received a full vaccination
course against feline enteritis, flu and feline
leukemia. They are all treated for worms,
fleas, and loved, cuddled and raised in a
very busy, noisy household. They each have
six weeks free insurance with Petplan and a
kitten goody bag, and endless support and
advice available!
Please visit www.malfulah.co.uk for more
pictures, updates and information. Kittens
will be available from our three queens,
throughout the year but we concentrate on
quality not quantity so on occasion,
potential owners may wish to be placed on
our waiting list.
Pet prices from £400 Breeding queens -
from £950. Potential studs from £1500 no
contract.
Bengals are fascinating and addictive,
curious and affectionate, and most definitely
beautiful hooligans! K
Bengal Cats, the beautiful hooligans!
