the Swan pub and it was with great pleasure that I chaired a public meeting attended by nearly fifty residents shortly after Easter. Having been in touch with the Charles Wells Brewery we have successfully managed to get the pub back on the market and a four point action the meeting to try and ensure a successful and sustainable future for the pub. A residents survey will be distributed and I am also pleased that the Parish Council are working hard on a village plan to try to ensure that all the village amenities such as the shop and post office this I have just returned from the chamber where sadly Alastair Darling has just decided to increase the duty on alcohol by 2%, another blow to the campaign. Clean the Stantonbury Spring Clean that I took part in and which brought together local volunteers from across the community to pick up litter in Stantonbury for the day. I must say the place looks much better as a result and hopefully will encourage people to keep it that way from now on. Not only very effective but great fun, every community should have one! principally highlighting concerns over school funding in Milton Keynes. The highlight however was my first speech from the despatch box when I was asked to wind up a historic debate on Africa in my role as the Shadow Minister for International Development. It was great to be able to tie in the work of the Olney- Newton link and excellent local NGO's such as Advantage Africa based in Olney but an entirely different, and to be honest slightly daunting experience speaking from the box! contact the Newport Pagnell office. the closure of The Swan.
