Mercury Report
Olney Town Council Meeting of Monday 6 April 2009
He proposed a site meeting between a
group of Councillors and the MKC planner
who'd designed the wild flower meadow so
that he could be called to account.
Emberton Park
Steve Clark had attended a meeting of the
Park Liaison User Group (PLUG). He noted
that the scheme for prohibiting the entry of
unauthorised vehicles after dusk was now in
place. He also noted that the ageing exit
ramp system was due to be replaced with a
new model. Finally he reported that the park
has an ongoing programme to update the
static caravans with newer models and, with
these tending to be larger, their pitches may
need to be redrawn in the future.
Allotment Field rubbish
Tony Evans reported that there'd been 40
50 young people on the Allotment Field one
recent Saturday afternoon and that they'd
left a good deal of rubbish and broken glass
behind. He felt that the main place they
gathered was behind Olney Town Colts'
shed on that field and suggested that the
groundsmen could cut back the thicket
nearby to make the area more visible. He
also felt that the main gate to the field could
be locked when the pitches were not in use.
He concluded by saying that he had no
objection to young people meeting in the
area, but did object to the rubbish and
particularly the broken glass left behind.
Della Cheal noted that the absence of
regular complaints from the Sports Clubs
should not be taken to mean that having to
clear rubbish from the playing surfaces was
unusual. Instead, it has become so common
that the Clubs see no point in complaining
about it.
A quick Google search for "broken glass"
"football pitch" shows that this problem is
far from unique to Olney.
The Olney Group (TOG)
Dave Price reported that he'd be stepping
down as leader of TOG at its AGM to be
held at the end of the town meeting. See the
end of the article for the town meeting's time
and place be there or be square. He said
some people in TOG were considering
taking on the role, and concluded by
thanking OTC for the support it provided
TOG.
For information, TOG is a local voluntary
group which organises events such as the
Raft Race on Sunday 28th June, Fireworks
Night and Santa's Grotto at Christmas.
The next meeting will be held at 7.30pm
on Monday 11th May in the Council
Chamber in The Olney Centre.
Members of the public are always
welcome to attend and, if they wish,
speak at the start of the meeting, or at
any point that the mayor decides is
appropriate.
This year's Annual Town Meeting will
take place in the Olney Centre on
Friday 8th May at 7.30 pm.
