Christmas Shopping

It was a drizzly cold evening in Olney but
people's spirits were lifted by an eclectic mix
of entertainment on the Market Place.
Olney's Late Night shopping spectacular
returned for its second year and did not fail
to disappoint. The evening kicked off with
Olney Brass band playing some festive
tunes, followed by Olney Middle School
singing carols. Olney Drama Club then
displayed some of their acting prowess with
a special one-off 35 minute performance of
The Jungle Book. Proud parents, spectators
and shoppers were kept warm and filled with
food and drink stalls from Teapots and Evans
Turkeys.
There were prizes to be won in a raffle and
the return of Shop Bingo. The odds of
winning were high for the few hardened
shoppers who persevered with the weather
to get there cards stamped by all the shops.
The eventual winner of the £100 hamper
went to Olney resident Tina Chada. The
evening ended with a bang as comedy band
The Bolivian Sunshine Dogs played some
classics whilst pumping a snow machine
from the stage, much to the children and the
9ft Santa's delight. Chairman of Olney
Chamber of Trade who sponsored the
evening said "It was a lovely Christmas
atmosphere on the market with the children
singing and the sound of the brass band.
Despite the wet weather there were shoppers
whose spirits weren't dampened." The
evening once again highlighted the wonderful
bands and organisations the town has to
offer. Together with enough shops with
unique gifts to satisfy anyone's Christmas
shopping list.
A big thank you goes to The Bedford
Pantomime, Kevin Viney Photography, The
Co-op and other Olney shops for their
generous raffle donations, and to David and
Anna of Milton Keynes Theatre of Comedy
for organising the entertainment and stage.
